Privacy Policy

Recordful is a screen recorder for Chrome. It is operated by Kislay, an individual based in India ("we", "us"). This policy explains what we collect, why, and what you can do about it.
The short version: recordings made with the free extension stay on your device. We only hold your data if you create an account, and we only hold recordings if you use Recordful Pro to save them to the cloud.
The free extension
You can record, annotate, edit and export with the extension without an account. In that case:
- Your recordings are stored in your browser, on your device. They are not uploaded to us.
- We do not know who you are and we do not receive the content of your screen, camera or microphone.
- The extension asks Chrome for permission to capture your screen, camera and microphone only so it can record them when you press record.
What we collect when you have an account
- Account details. Your name, email address and, if you sign up with a password, a hashed version of it. If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address and profile picture from Google.
- Workspace details. The name of your workspace, its members, and the email addresses of people you invite.
- Recordings (Pro). The video and audio you choose to save to the cloud, their titles, edits, and any transcripts you request.
- Subscription status. Whether your workspace has an active plan, its renewal date, and an identifier from our payment provider. We never see or store your card details.
- Diagnostic logs. When you are signed in, the extension can send error reports about failed recordings or uploads so we can fix them and help recover your work.
- Messages. Anything you send us by email.
How we use it
- To provide the service: store your recordings, play them back, and show them to the people you share them with.
- To run your subscription and send receipts and service emails, such as workspace invitations.
- To keep the service secure, prevent abuse, and fix faults.
We do not sell your data, we do not show ads, and we do not use your recordings to train machine learning models.
Who processes data for us
We use a small number of providers to run Recordful. Each one only receives what it needs:
- Cloudflare stores Pro recordings in a private bucket.
- Deepgram transcribes a recording's audio, only when you ask for a transcript or for captions. For captions on a recording kept in your browser, only its sound is sent, and we do not keep it.
- Polar is the merchant of record for payments and handles checkout, billing and tax.
- Resend delivers email, such as invitations.
- Google provides sign-in, if you choose it.
- Neon hosts our database, and Inngest runs background jobs.
These providers may process data in countries other than your own, including the United States.
Sharing
Cloud recordings are private to your workspace by default. A recording becomes visible to others only when you turn on its share link, and anyone with that link can then watch it until you turn the link off.
We disclose data to authorities only when the law requires it.
Cookies
The website does not use advertising or analytics cookies. See the Cookie Policy.
How long we keep it
We keep your account and recordings until you delete them. You can delete a recording from the dashboard and delete your account from settings. Deleting your account removes your account details and the recordings you own. Backups and logs are cleared on a rolling basis, within 30 days.
Your rights
You can ask us for a copy of your data, to correct it, or to delete it. Depending on where you live, you may also have the right to object to or restrict how we use it, and to complain to your local data protection authority. Email us and we will reply within 30 days.
Children
Recordful is not intended for children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we will update the date above and tell account holders by email.
